Kartograme offers a high-quality and accessible edition of the Jean Dodal Tarot, one of the major works among the oldest Tarots de Marseille in France.

The images have neither been modified nor redrawn. Only the colors have been revived to restore the hue and brilliance of the original pigments (indigo, buckthorn yellow, bladder green, cinnabar red...).

78 cards from the original images of the British Museum

Jean Dodal was a card maker referenced in the city of Lyon, France, in 1701.

At the time, images were printed like engravings: a woodcut (printing paper on an engraved and inked wooden board) with color added by stencil. The origin of these images is mysterious, and no one knows the precise identity of the engraver. There is a strong resemblance to the images of the Jean Payen Tarot of 1713 and the Vachier Tarot of 1639.

This tarot is thus one of the oldest representatives of the Tarot de Marseille.

The Jean Dodal Tarot leaves no one indifferent. Its primitive graphics, its raw and inspired lines carry a rare emotional charge. It awakens deep resonances and invites an authentic connection with reality.

A masterpiece by the master card maker from Lyon in 1701, the Jean Dodal Tarot is renowned for prompting deep reflection and awakening intuition. Born from ancestral know-how, it is part of the Artisans' tradition, combining the transformation of matter with the transmission of profound knowledge about self-awareness and personal development.
